The first working fire of May 2010 was a basement fire on May 1st. The fire broke out in the afternoon and the Hempstead Fire Department was quick to respond. The fire was quickly knocked down in a matter of minutes. It was reported that nobody was home when the fire started. The Nassau County Fire Marhsall's office is investigating the cause.
